Mississippi Humanist Association - 2017 Annual Membership Meeting

Please make plans to join us for the Mississippi Humanist Association's (MHA) Annual Membership Meeting on February 11th, 2017, at 6:30 PM at the Reservoir Community Center located at 2230 Spillway Road in Brandon, MS. Come enjoy an evening with your fellow humanists and a presentation from “Godless in Dixie” blogger and MHA member Neil Carter titled “Why Jesus and Darwin Can’t Get Along”! Please be sure to RSVP, either by e-mail to mha@mshumanists.org or on the Facebook event page (a public page - https://www.facebook.com/events/359662517750687/), so way may plan appropriately. If you aren’t currently an MHA member, please join us, or renew your membership at www.mshumanists.org, so you can have a voice in Mississippi’s only chapter of the American Humanist Association. The MHA is dedicated to building a strong secular community in Mississippi, as well as developing opportunities for secular charitable giving and education. Once everyone arrives and has had a chance to socialize, the current Board of Directors will present updates regarding the past year’s activities and potential future plans. MHA Treasurer Stephen Frank will report on expenditures and how your donations are spent. After remarks and presentations, our first order of business will be the ratification of our new bylaws. We will then have the elections for the three available Officer/Board of Directors positions. The nomination period is still open, with January 28th as a deadline for nominations, so we may finalize the ballot and send it out for e-mail voting. Of course, write-in candidates will be welcome at the membership meeting. We’ll also have physical ballots at the meeting for voting. Due to the change in the bylaws, everyone who was a member in good standing in 2016 will be eligible to serve on the Board of Directors, as well as vote on bylaws and the available positions. Should you choose to nominate yourself or someone else, please indicate the position for which any candidates are being nominated - President, Vice President or Secretary. Finally, to cap off the evening, we’ll have Godless in Dixie blogger Neil Carter’s presentation “Why Jesus and Darwin Can’t Get Along” in honor of Darwin Day on February 12! We believe it will be a great start to an active new year of speakers, events and activities! We look forward to seeing you there! Mississippi Humanist Association - We Believe in Good!
