Please make plans to join the Mississippi Humanist Association (MHA) for our 2018 Annual Membership Meeting on February 24th. This yearly event is where our members get together to choose who will represent them on the Board of Directors and review the past year of MHA activities.
The Annual Membership Meeting will begin at 5:00 P.M. on February 24th, at The Flamingo, located at 3011 North State Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Directions can be found HERE.
If you plan to attend, PLEASE RSVP. We will be purchasing food and drink based on RSVPs. As none of us can currently see into the future, your RSVPs are crucial for us to plan a successful meeting. Please RSVP, either by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, or on the Facebook event page (a public page), so we may plan appropriately.
There will be light refreshments - appetizers, beer/wine/soda - and if you have any particular dietary concerns, please let us know in your RSVP.
After the Board of Directors' remarks about 2017 and 2018, we will proceed to the elections.
The annual meeting is not just a meeting and a social event though, it’s also the time for an important bit of business: electing new members to our board of directors. Each year either 2 or 3 directors rotate out of the board, ensuring a steady hand.
This year, two seats are up for election. MHA Communications Officer, Patrick Jerome will not be returning to the board in 2018. If there is someone else you would like to see on the job, now is the time to nominate them (or yourself). On top of the regular board duties, the Communications Officer needs to be familiar with social and traditional media, and electronic communications. A more detailed look at the position can be found HERE.
Stephen Frank, MHA treasurer, is running for re-election. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone for treasurer, please keep in mind that they need to be capable with financial and record keeping techniques and technologies, on top of the regular board duties. A more detailed look at the position can be found HERE.
MHA members, please consider serving on the MHA Board of Directors. Your nominations over the next few weeks are vital for ensuring that the MHA stays relevant in the difficult times ahead. We realize that many of our members don’t want to be public in their non-belief and secularism. However, please note that board members are expected to be in the public eye. If you are comfortable being public about your humanism, please consider serving humanism in Mississippi by nominating yourself to serve on the MHA Board of Directors.
After we’ve conducted the elections, outgoing Communications Officer and creator of Pearl River Flow, Patrick Jerome, will present a brief talk about the wild theology and cosmology of Marvel Comics, called More Than Thor: The Cosmic Beings of Marvel Comics.
We will finish up with plenty of time for you to head out for an evening in Jackson. This is a family-friendly event, but do keep in mind that there will be alcoholic beverages, some speeches, and The Flamingo has a lot of accessible artwork around.
So, please, make plans to join us for a fun evening on February 24th! Looking forward to seeing YOU at the 2018 MHA Annual Membership Meeting!
