JIM HELTON VISITS THE MHA

Jim Helton.jpg

On July 10th, Jim Helton, the National Field Organizer for American Atheists, came to Jackson to speak to the MHA. Jim provided the group with actionable steps we can use to make a difference in our state. These steps include partnering with other groups for specific issues, joining local school boards, running for city council, and increasing visibility.

We are using our blog to unpack the information provided. Get started by reading our post titled “What is a Humanist Issue?” and follow that up with “How to Run for Local Office – And Win.”

We are excited to take the information Jim taught us and put it into action, and we need your help! Let’s work toward a more secular Mississippi together.

PATRICK AND RANDI JEROME WELCOME A BABY GIRL

It’s a girl for Patrick and Randi Jerome! The Jeromes welcomed their new baby girl into the world this summer, and the MHA could not be happier for them. That sweet little face is proof that humans are worth fighting for!

EVENT ROUND-UP

It’s been another fun month full of events for the MHA. We started the month off with MHA Second Sunday Brunch at Surin of Thailand. Surin is quickly becoming one of our favorite brunch spots.

We followed that up with MHA Humanist Happy Hour at Scrooge’s in Jackson. We held this event during a massive rainstorm, and we appreciate those who braved the weather to come out.

We finished the month with MHA Sunday Brunch in Hattiesburg. We have a great group down there, and if you have yet to have the chance to attend, make a point to go.

WHY ARE YOU A HUMANIST?

The MHA has a diverse group of members, and each person has his or her own story. Making our stories public is one way to remove the stigma of humanism. We want to know why you are a humanist. Email your reason to mha@mshumanists.org so we can share it on social media. Keep in mind that our social media accounts are public.

We can’t wait to hear from you!
