The Mississippi Humanist Association (MHA) is pleased to present filmmaker & author Chris Johnson and his documentary film A Better Life: An Exploration of Joy & Meaning In A World Without God, and we invite you to join us for this FREE “Mississippi Premier” screening on November 19th, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Holiday Inn at Trustmark Park, 110 Bass Pro Drive in Pearl, Mississippi! Mr. Johnson will join us for a showing of his film, and discuss the film and his book, A Better Life: 100 Atheists Speak Out on Joy & Meaning in a World Without God, which inspired the film. A Better Life has been shown in more than 60 cities on four continents, but this will mark the first time this film has come to Mississippi.
At the time of its creation in 2011, Chris’ book A Better Life was the second highest funded project in Kickstarter history, and this funding gave Chris a chance to interview many famous atheists and humanists, to photograph natural beauty around the world, and to “visually capture the diversity of non-believers and the ways they maintain a better life, not in spite of their atheism, but because of it.”
This film tackles the second question most atheists have:
“There is no God. Now what? If this is the only life we have, how does that affect how we live our lives, how we treat each other, and cope with death? A Better Life introduces us to people from all walks of life and backgrounds who challenge the false stereotypes of atheists as immoral and evil. From Cara Santa Maria and A.C. Grayling, to Julia Sweeney and Robert Llewellyn — learn the various ways many atheists have left religion to a better life filled with love, compassion, hope, and wonder.”
To film A Better Life, Chris spent a year and a half on the road, meeting people from many different backgrounds and experiences, from the cliffs of Yosemite National Park, to swimming in San Francisco Bay, to the English countryside, to the shores of Lake Constance in Germany.
Now, the journey comes to Mississippi - come be a part of it with the Mississippi Humanist Association! Join us on Sunday, November 19th, at 2:00 PM at the Holiday Inn at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS, for an enlightening afternoon with filmmaker Chris Johnson and the screening of his film A Better Life: An Exploration of Joy & Meaning in a World Without God.
